Dubai: For those whose flights were canceled due to rain, there are no fines for overstaying visas.

If you overstay in the United Arab Emirates after your visa’s grace period or validity has expired, you will be fined 50 dirhams per day.

However, a contact center representative for the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) in Dubai explained that travelers whose departure flights were canceled between Tuesday, April 16, and Thursday, April 18, would not be charged an overstay penalty.

A powerful rainstorm that struck the UAE on Tuesday, April 16, caused torrential rain, property damage, and disruptions to air traffic in Dubai.

The rain was a historically significant weather occurrence that exceeds all records since 1949, prior to the United Arab Emirates’ founding in 1971.

The runway at Dubai International Airport was flooded, forcing planes to crash through the water and keeping hundreds of travelers waiting in terminals.
